Creativity’s Block: Don’t You Worry, It Happens To Everyone
Nice to have you back at CodeMyConcept dungeons. Guess our little experiments are really getting to you. With so many PSD to WordPress projects we have received recently, even our best HTML coders sometimes suffer from this annoying disease. Why does creativity’s block happen in the worst of times and to the best of minds?
In order to answer this question we had to capture one of our very dedicate WordPress developers and conduct an autopsy procedure of a creative mind. We will discover how creativity’s block work and how can it prevent the most dedicated coder achieve awesome HTML to WordPress ever.
First thing we see by opening the “Parietal Bone” a lot of codes come up. Looks like this one has quite some PSD to WordPress projects to do, let’s see what the problem is:
1. Trying to find the right answer- For a creative’s mind there is no such thing as one right answer. Try reframing the problem in several different ways in order to prompt different answers.
2. Being Practical- It does work for society but is a creativity killer. Spend time asking “what if” as often as possible, and simply allow your imagination to go where it wants.
3. “I shouldn’t do that”- You’ve got to know the specializations in your field, but if you view yourself as an explorer rather than a “highly-specialized on everything” then you might have more information to help you solve problems.
4. Avoiding Ambiguity- It’s an innate characteristic of human psychology to desire certainty, but it’s the creative thinker who rejects the false comfort of clarity when it’s not really appropriate. Ambiguity is your friend if you’re looking to innovate.5. Perfectionism– Are your creations never quite good enough? Many creative people are perfectionists.
6. Exhaustion– You need time to process the ideas and you also need exposure to the outside world for inspiration. When you over schedule yourself, you eliminate both processing time and inspiration.
With the problem identified, let’s put in some awesome tips to prevent creativity’s block:
- Change your “canvas” on which you’re trying to express your creativity by switching to a new, blank one.
- Walk away from your creative block and let your mind wander and imagine anything at all.
- Perform an activity you’re able to do without thinking or using any creativity.
- People who think you’re creative are great creative catalysts. Seek them out and ask what inspires them about creative work you’ve done.
- Eat. Your brain needs food to function is like expecting a car to move without gas.
- Ask a creative friend for help. With a new set of eyes and fresh thinking, chances are the other person will see a creative key you’re missing.
- Patience is a virtue. Sometimes you just need some little time to step back a get the ideas flowing.
Do not see creativity’s block as a terminal disease or something it only happens to writers or painters. It happens to all of us and normally you will come back with an idea you never would have thought of to solve problems like pixel perfect on HTML to CSS.
So it is time to get this web developer back to work. We hope you understand the function of creativity’s block and come back any time for the next experiment here at CodeMyConcept!
