The use of safe Font-Face is one of the most important things to have in mind when you have a PSD to HTML conversion; that is why we want to give you the most use of them in order to prevent HTML coders to update the design and end up making it look totally different from what you wanted in the first place.

We already know common fonts that are safer to use for web design:

• Arial / Helvetica- they are a good choice for short text, perhaps a paragraph or two in length.
• Times New Roman / Times- designed for use as newspaper column text. It has a small size, compared to most other fonts.
• Courier New / Courier- the traditional monospace font.

But there are other Common sans-serif fonts for you to play with web design, such as:

• Verdana- Its lowercase letters are very large, compared to the overall size of the font, which makes text easy to read on the web.
• Tahoma- Tahoma is another of Microsoft’s web fonts.
• Arial Black- designed for headlines.
• Comic Sans MS- is a sans-serif font with a soft, rounded style.
• Impact- designed for headlines.
• Georgia- It is a nicely readable screen font, but has the same problems that Verdana does of looking bad when printed,
• Palatino- Originally designed as a display font.
• Century Schoolbook- You cannot rely on its being present on Windows computers.

And then we have the Google Web Fonts API. All fonts in the directory are available for use on your website under an open source license and are served by Google servers, some of them are:

• Terminal Dosis Light
• Michroma
• Cabin Sketch
• Irish Grover
• Oswald
• EB Garamond
• Six Caps
• Nova
• Amaranth
• Pacifico

As you see there are a lot of them, so there are no excuses from your web designer to not use any of them, be careful of that.

Mo’ Bulletpoofer is the only syntax that works across browsers including Android and Internet Explorer. Both of them have buggy implementations and this format works around both of them. Unlike Internet Explorer, Android doesn’t “look back” and take the font specified in the initial URL reference. IE9 downloads both the EOT file and the WOFF file using Mo’ Bulletproofer.

If you prefer a single declaration solution and your pages don’t trigger one of the Internet Explorer 9 Compatibility Modes, barring any more unforeseen changes between it RC1 and IE9 RTM, the Fontspring syntax seems alive.

Now if you follow this Font- Face list there is no need for your HTML coders to update it and destroy the original design, when you hire a web designer, make sure they design your website with this list in mind, help us make life easier.

1)     Dreamweaver- a web development application originally created by Macromedia, now developed by Adobe Systems, it is available for both Mac and Windows operating systems and recent versions have incorporated support for web technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, to name a few.

It is supported by a large community of extension developers (isn’t it amazing how many communities are out there? We HTML coders sure are very social people!) who make extensions available for most web development tasks from simple rollover effects to full-featured shopping carts, but not as complete as a PSD to Magento or PSD to Shopify.

Like any other HTML editors, it edits files locally, and then uploads them to the remote web server using FTP, SFTP, or WebDAV. But logical coding creates unnecessary tags and a lot of garbage some other complications with this software are:

• Without an educator’s discount, the program can cost up to $400. Many other programs are less expensive or free, so be careful of that.
• Someone without any editing experience could be confused by the many options available in the editor.
• The toolbar and properties window also might provide too many options for a novice web designer.
• The tutorials seemed to have very basic information and some of the more complicated topics without teaching many of the helpful tools offered in Dreamweaver.
• The tutorials and the Help Viewer did not always provide the “big picture” for all options available.
• The overblown code
• The complicated UI (user interface)
• Its support and implementation for layers and CSS positioning is still somewhat awry and in need of tuning.

And the list could keep going, but Dreamweaver is not the only editor out there:

2)     FrontPage is a little lame if you read the generated output source code, you might understand why FrontPage is not a good choice. It will generate codes that only IE users could see (let’s get IE6 to 1%). but once you have created the site you cannot move it on to any other server unless you start again coding all the pages of your site. The main feature of this software is that it helps you creating small website without any knowledge to HTML coding.

3)     Just about all of the WYSIWYG editors produce poor quality HTML. What’s more, they encourage the common disbelieve that building a web site with HTML is just like laying out a page for a magazine using Scribus or Pagemaker or Quark Xpress.

By hand coding your sites, it is for sure any browser will read it, what gives you more traffic and more opportunities you cannot even imagine. You can make any changes you like without re-coding the entire site and administrating easy with all those options the editors have, for example converting PSD to Drupal has a very manage system for the clients but at the time of coding is complicated so you better find an expert to help you with it.

What we are trying to say is if you want totally kick ass web site you should use handmade codes, it would surely make you and your viewers life easy and can updated constantly with completely awesome new stuff.

It is a fast and concise JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development.

It has two usage styles:

• The $ function, which is a factory method for the jQuery object. These functions, often called commands, are chainable.
• Via $.-prefixed functions. These are utility functions which do not work on the jQuery object per se.

“Write less, do more” is a good spiritual view of life but (why is there always a but?) here are the 7 Deadly Sins you must never do on it:

I.               Combine with other frameworks- you must control the desire of work with every JavaScrip Library or you will end up in a real mess.

II.              Excessive use of it- do not get used to working every project with it, you won’t grow as HTML coders.

III.            Use it if necessary- you can do awesome things with it, but use it wisely.

IV.            Make CSS changes with it- if you have to make changes, it is best of doing it in the original file version, if not another problem might be having to wait for it to implement those changes.

V.             Do not use Capital Letters- jQuery is very sensible, if you use capital letters, it could mess up all your work, or do something completely opposite of what you wanted to do.

VI.            Do not use it inside the HTML- it is better to use it only on the <head> label or before the end of the <body> closure, using it on other parts is a big No, No!

VII.          Do not fix HTML codes with it- even if there is no other choice, do not fix it on jQuery it would definite won’t make things better but in some wear cases it would help.

You can also make use of jQuery UI, it provides abstractions for low-level interaction and animation, advanced effects and high-level, theme able widgets, built on top of the jQuery JavaScript library, that can be used to build interactive web applications.

You can use all of these effects:

• Color Animation

• Toggle Class, Add Class, Remove Class, Switch Class
• Effect
• Toggle
• Hide, Show

All CMS’ have forum and blog capabilities, some of them often have myriads of different modules that you can use to extend the system capabilities; and Drupal has a vibrant and vivid community like no other CMS system (ready to answer your questions at any time), an open source solution Plone, PostNuke, or PHPNuke and commercial products like Microsoft SharePoint to named a few.

For those who still have their doubts about it, here is a little collection of what it has in store for you!

Drupal is known for its meticulously well-designed code. The design structure empowers the Drupal developers to write code that uses the system resources wisely (speed issues and concurrence problems are not likely to come into consideration).

For Website Content Management, it provides the ability to easily create, update, and organize the content of your website. Automates the repetitive processes of content creation and maintains consistency of appearance and organization of your content. It also has the choice to work for e-Commerce modules to enable you to sell products and services online.

“CCK” is one of the modules that allow you to define custom fields in your content types. “Views” can help you create different lists of quotations: you can sort them alphabetically, or display only quotations. It has lots of features (Search Engine Friendly URLs, categories, search function and many more) and modules to extend your site’s functionality too.

Even though there are add-ons for IE6 and IE7 to make life easier for HTML Coders, they do not compare to the lasted Explorer version or Firefox. Some of the comments you can hear about the browser at the moment are:

• “Three more years of just plain hell and chaos…”
• “I’m glad Microsoft if FINALLY going to end of life IE 6 but 3 MORE YEARS?”
• “Stop using Internet Explorer 6. Pleeeeeease!”
• “Stop using Microsoft’s IE6 web browser, says Microsoft”
• “I’m doing my part to get IE6 to 1%”

Microsoft had sent a mission to the world, to erase IE6 for good in 3 years, according to Net Applications, IE6 still has 12% share worldwide. The mission, if you want to accept it, is to get this share under 1% worldwide, a very possible mission if you ask us.

Sites like this one IE6Countdown, teach you the reasons why IE6 must stop working, one of them being security: hackers already know too well how to infiltrate your computer by these means.

Some of the benefits of being updated are:

The good news is that for the United States IE6 share is only 2.9%, 3.5% in United Kingdom, 3.3% in Canada, almost there keep it going! But Norway and Finland are the only two countries where IE6 has less than 1% very good for you!

Most of the IE6 users are companies, it is necessary to let them see what they are risking, if a person use it, hackers party with their information, just imagine what they can do with the business secret data? One problem with upgrading IE is that people using Windows XP can’t upgrade IE beyond Internet Explorer 8. It has been designed for what you really do on the Web like searching, shopping, emailing, or just catching up on the world. Except now you can do all of those things faster, safer, and easier than ever. Tell your boss about it will really increase you work production.

Internet Explorer 6 has become a really huge problem, especially for people afraid of change, we don’t know why but there is a worrying fear to update your computer’s software or programs that completely delay and prevent you of moving forward.

What made you decide on creating the MJK project?
Basically Alex (CodeMyConcept’s QA Manager) had the need to keep track of the pending Q&A projects in a more organized way than just a simple text edit file, we thought about using a Google Docs Spread Sheet but we thought “Hey, we’re programmers. Let’s do this the right way”.
So we built the MJK tool and along the way started adding a bunch of features that a spread sheet would not be able to provide.

How many versions are there of the MJK project?
I kind of think about it as one “never ending” version. We’re adding features to it constantly.

What does the name mean?
Alex and Myself decided to name it after Maynard James Keenan, Tool’s front man. We’re huge fans and thought it would be kinda cool.

Did you have any other name choices?
Not really, well, at the very beginning we were just calling it the Q&A-tool. So Alex started thinking “Q&A-tool%u2026 tool%u2026 TOOL, MAYNARD! Let’s call it MJK!!!!!!”
And he kinda said it as a joke, but I made a lot of sense so we never considered other options.

Do you feel your obsession with Tool is healthy? (Just kidding but he doesn’t know, I just let him answer it anyway).
Quite the contrary, my man crush with Maynard’s singing and lyrics is driving people mad. I’m not a really good singer myself.
so I think is hurting some of the team mate’s ears!

What exactly does the MJK project does right now?
It keeps track of every project that is delivered by the HTML&CSS team, so we can have a record of the coder, project status, arrival date, links, customer’s and Internal notes and screenshots. Plus, it has killer jQuery animations!!

Any plans for the future of other processes at CodeMyConcept?
A whole bunch of plans! Project MJK was just the start of a series of improvements that we have planned for all departments. We’re starting development for another tracking tool for the HTML guys and planning the CMS Implementation tracking tool.

I have followed and observed our HTML coders for a while now and noticed quite a few interesting facts:

1. The vast majority of coders at CodeMyConcept smoke, one of the reasons why they do it is probably to have an excuse to go outside and see daylight, be social and talk to other people in the office, to force themselves to go get some “fresh air”. Well if you go and check reasons why people smoke is to release stress. although our HTML coders are extremely happy, outgoing people, they take their jobs way seriously and that causes stress.

2. The vast majority of our HTML coders drink coffee. At CodeMyConcept we currently offer two types of coffee: A coffee machine and a coffee maker, you could easily say that those two machines work harder than regular coffee machines. Days at CodeMyConcept start early and end late, they need caffeine to run the little engines on their brains.

3. When working on a project, their interaction with others is very similar to autistic behavior. Which leads me to the need for smoking most of HTML coders have, they probably realize at some point that they need to talk to others and interact with people, they use the cigarette as an excuse to leave the catatonic state and be “normal” for a few minutes.

4. A lot of the coders have an special appreciation for the rock band Tool. The PSD to HTML Quality Control program the guys at CodeMyConcept created is called “MJK“, as a tribute to Tool’s front man Maynard James Keenan, if that doesn’t tell you there is some sort of infatuation going on, what will. Oh! One of the coders has a huge Alex Grey work tattooed on his back, he is known for having done some of the best Tool Album art: Lateralus.

5. HTML coders are the sweetest creatures on earth. It is unbelievable the kind of love that fills this entire office. HTML coders at CodeMyConcept really care for their coworkers, they built relationships amongst themselves quickly (probably during the smoking breaks) . they have pet names, they dedicate songs to each other and what not. This office sometimes feels like an eternal Saint Valentine’s day.

These are only five facts from my intensive research. I would like to see if other web coders or even web designers share this behavior and who knows, maybe I’ll continue my research and share it with you. Other interesting facts are: they loose track of time quite easily, do not have a feeding schedule and have the tendency spend a lot of money on Energy Busters.
